New Home and Functioning Internet!

Wow! It's been way too long since I've posted-- sorry about that! We moved to a new place and thanks to a miscommunication with our service provider, we were without internet until today. While I try to get back into the swing of things (and unpack!) I wanted to share some pics of our new rental. I'm pretty excited about sprucing it up.

This is the kitchen overlooking the living room area. I am so stoked about having hard floors. We have a Maine Coon so lots of carpet equals endless vacuuming. Not to mention the occasional accident that comes from having a pet. Plus how sweet is that vintage fireplace insert? I have plans to get that puppy to shine again. I also want to try and clean up the brick.

The large den is going to become a "music" room of sorts. My spinet piano has already been moved in thanks to my hubby and some of his work buddies. Phew! Our landlords left the bedframe in the guest room for us to use while we live here, which we were thrilled about. Now my visiting friends and family won't have to be resigned to the couch.

The mint room is going to be the office/craft room. I love the color! We're renting so we won't be allowed to paint, but I'm really happy with this little colorful corner of the house. That room gets tons of sunlight as well. Also, I'm more than a little obsessed with the light fixture in our guest bathroom-- cute!!

Our Wedding - Part II

Hello, loves! Today I'm going to share the rest of our wedding photos with you. There are so many wonderful ones it was tough to choose which ones I wanted to post on the blog. I hope you can get some idea of the general feeling of the day from the ones I chose. We tried to keep things relaxed and fun, but still special. All in all I really think our wedding was as perfect as it could have been! Our photographers, Ector and Kristina from 33 and a Third Photography, were so bubbly and wonderful to be around. They did a really good job at making us feel comfortable and catching genuine smiles and laughter. :)

The antique lanterns on the tables are from much time spent scouring etsy. The mason jar toasting glasses were made from vintage candlesticks and jars by my best friend's mother. She also made us a pretty spectacular scrapbook with our engagement photos that we will treasure for many years.

My advice to other brides is pretty simple: figure out what's important to you and go for it! Decide what things you want from the start and be willing to compromise on everything else. It will help you in the long run to let other people help you, and seeing all the little things that your family and friends did come together on your big day is a huge payoff. Don't be afraid to decide which traditions are important to you and which just aren't! My aunt officiated our ceremony, I had a bridesman, and my husband had a best lady! And guess what? The world did not come to a screeching halt-- and more importantly we got to share the first moment of our marriage with the people we loved.

With that I have to leave you with our amazing photobooth pictures. These were some of our favorite photos of the day! The one of my parents just slays me.

Nerd It Up: Indiana Jones

Hello lovelies! Welcome to Nerd It Up! This is a new (is it still new?) feature on the blog where I put together plus-size looks inspired by nerd culture. This week the inspiration comes from Indiana Jones!

The original Indiana Jones triology was a huge part of my childhood. I used to strap a fanny pack around my waist and tromp around my backyard looking for treasure in the dirt. My brother and I also annoyed our poor mother by shrieking "KALI MA!" at each other repeatedly while miming gruesome heart-removing motions. Good times, good times.

Marvelous Mondays: Favorite Color (Orange!)

Happy Marvelous Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! My older brother was visiting us for the weekend, and we had a blast. We went and saw the Lone Ranger, which was pretty good. I didn't think it was awesome awesome, but I still enjoyed myself. :)

If you're new to the blog, here's the idea behind Marvelous Monday:
"Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!"

There are currently 5 of us participating in the challenges, so make sure to check out the other ladies' looks! I've posted links at the bottom of this entry for your perusal.

This week the theme was "your favorite color." I loved this challenge, but it was actually tough for me-- because my favorite color is bright, retina-burning orange! I don't have too many pieces in that shade (especially that are wearable in the heat we've been having). Then I remembered this great vintage bag I've had for a few years. I found it in a thrift shop while I was in college, and it was love at first sight.

Nerd It Up: True Blood

Hello lovelies! Welcome to Nerd It Up! This is a new feature on the blog where I put together plus-size looks inspired by nerd culture. This week the inspiration comes from True Blood!

While its sixth season certainly isn't as strong as its first, I still enjoy the delicious deeply Southern romp that is True Blood. Although the vampire thing has been done to death (har har!), the beauty of True Blood is the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. The mixing of a traditionally conservative culture with the sexy predatory supernaturals is captivating and keeps me watching!

Marvelous Mondays: Floral

Happy Marvelous Monday! Hope your week is off to a great start! My brother is coming to visit us for Independence Day (his birthday!), so I'm pretty excited. Our tradition is to go up in the mountains and watch the fireworks burst over the whole county below us. It's pretty terrific.

This week the theme was "floral." This presented the perfect opportunity to bust my obnoxiously yellow dress out. Woohoo!
