Marvelous Mondays: Breaking the Rules

Happy Marvelous Monday my loves! Unfortunately my pics today didn't turn out the greatest. The sky was very dark and stormy looking, and yet the sun was still blazing, which resulting in some very weird lighting. Not to mention it was about 15 degrees hotter outside than when I left for work this morning, and I was suffocating! I'm afraid I rushed these as a result.

In any case! If you're new to the blog, here's the idea behind Marvelous Monday:
"Our philosophy: Monday is nobody’s favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We’re on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously!"

There are currently 5 of us participating in the challenges, so make sure to check out the other ladies' looks! I've posted links at the bottom of this entry for your perusal.

This week's theme was "breaking a fashion rule." I think as plus-size bloggers we are certainly bogged down with more "rules" than most. I'm happy to say that, in my opinion, the girls involved with this concept are not afraid to challenge the notion that we're only "allowed" to wear things that make us appear to be thinner. You wear the clothes, not the other way around! Wear what makes you happy, or comfortable, or confident. Or don't! But whatever you do I hope it's because you've made that decision, and not because you've felt forced into it by some silly rules.

I broke two rules with this look-- combining prints and wearing horizontal stripes. :)

floral skinnies, belk. cream striped top and nude flats, old navy.

  1. I love that top! You sort of have to do a double-take to catch the stripes, and I love that. It's fascinating! Haha. I also like that you paired it with those gorgeous jeans!
I'm just all sorts of enthusiastic.

    1. Thank you! I think the stripes are a little more noticeable in person, but they're definitely not super bold. I started to pair this with a black and white striped top but decided that was a little too wacky for my office to handle, haha. xD

  3. I love mixing stripes and florals! I'm 35 and remember when floral jeans were popular in the 80s/early 90s - I had a pair of floral jean shorts. Because of that, I can't really seem to get into floral jeans this go-around. That said, I love them on you, and I love the pairing with the striped sweater.

    1. Thank you! I was a kid in the 90s so I only vaguely remember that-- but I do remember florals being on just about everything. I think I even had a denim floral fanny pack. Ack!

      Thank you!

  5. Those trousers!! Love them and the print mixing, which is delightfully subtle with those stripes.

I think you're spot on when you say we wear the clothes and that being happy with what you're wearing is #1. All the other rules should be thrown out the window.

    1. Thank you! And I absolutely agree! I wouldn't wear anything gray for the longest time because someone had told me repeatedly that gray made me look very "blah and bloated." Which is just stupid! As I really started to learn more about FA and stopped being at war with my body, all of those concerns have just started dropping away. And I wear gray all the time now without a second thought!

  6. I'm really liking your floral pants, I like how the colors are vibrant, a lot of floral pants i've seen are very muted in colors. But yeah i really like your theme this week, I think you look great and i totally agree that you should wear what makes you happy!

    1. Thank you! That's totally what drew me to them! I like the more pastel floral prints as well, but they're not very "me."
